I was just reading a very familiar verse and this question struck me. Firstly heres the verse: Matthew 7: 7-8
7 “Keep on asking, and you will receive what you ask for. Keep on seeking, and you will find. Keep on knocking, and the door will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks, receives. Everyone who seeks, finds. And to everyone who knocks, the door will be opened.
And while i understand what this means, I wonder about what i've learned regarding the right kind of faith. Arent we to believe that what we ask for we have received? And we should go on as if we have received it already....then why would we need to keep on asking? Or is this supposed to be in the active participle, to say not to give up in what you do. Keep praying to God, keep seeking him in everything. Not necessarily the same thing day after day because that would not be faith.
Also this verse here: Matthew 6: 7-13
7 “When you pray, don’t babble on and on as people of other religions do. They think their prayers are answered merely by repeating their words again and again. 8 Don’t be like them, for your Father knows exactly what you need even before you ask him! 9 Pray like this:
Our Father in heaven,
may your name be kept holy.
10 May your Kingdom come soon.
May your will be done on earth,
as it is in heaven.
11 Give us today the food we need,[a]
12 and forgive us our sins,
as we have forgiven those who sin against us.
13 And don’t let us yield to temptation,[b]
but rescue us from the evil one.[c]
Now my question is what exactly Jesus means...because sometimes i do go on and on in my prayers to God. Its not really that short and sweet, while it may encompass Jesus' example, its usually longer. I dont think he is saying...only pray like this!...but more so not to just repeat the same thing over and over and then expect your prayers to be answered because of that. Is that correct? lol i just dont want God to be unhappy with my prayers.
